The referee ignored SV Neubeckum's protests and gave Arne Hormes a yellow card for diving instead. In the 11th minute, Arne Hormes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Blau–Weiß Pinneberg 05's zone, Harald Ziegler stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Birger Goll came out of the goal and Harald Ziegler tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some careless play in the Blau–Weiß Pinneberg 05 defense, Arne Hormes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Birger Goll. The Blau–Weiß Pinneberg 05 fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Birger Goll should have stopped the shot. Dietmar Ziege's late challenge caught a SV Neubeckum's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dietmar Ziege helped the player get up and apologised. In the 23rd minute Harald Ziegler shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Birger Goll saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marco Mussauer in the 33rd minute of play forced Blau–Weiß Pinneberg 05's goalkeeper Birger Goll to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Palle Höfgen came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Blau–Weiß Pinneberg 05 fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Palle Höfgen couldn't finish the play. The throw-in from Lennart Adler in the 47th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by SV Neubeckum's Harald Ziegler. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Erich Wolf was the one to do the kick off. Harald Ziegler blasted a shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Birger Goll having to make a save. In the 58th minute Erich Wolf shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leif-Eric Schubeus saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, SV Neubeckum's Harald Ziegler got a free kick in the 58th minute. If Liam Czerwinsky had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Liam Czerwinsky received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Leif-Eric Schubeus tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Leif-Eric Schubeus stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Erich Wolf's shot from short distance in the 67th minute. Erich Wolf took the ball and in the 70 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Leif-Eric Schubeus. Leif-Eric Schubeus dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. SV Neubeckum's Leif-Eric Schubeus played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Erich Wolf in the 75th minute of play. Harald Ziegler struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Birger Goll didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SV Neubeckum.
