When Mesut Özil fell near the penalty area in the 18th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Rot-Weiss-Essen's protests and gave Mesut Özil a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Rot-Weiss-Essen getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Mesut Özil hit a great ball. Tino Olck was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 19th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Adam Northe showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Heinrich Weinert, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. 27 minutes into the match, Heinrich Weinert notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Rot-Weiss-Essen's Adam Northe. Adam Northe was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Anestis Kotsopoulos to make the kick off. In the 51st minute Hugo Haupt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bruno Untermann saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Fazlı Akyüz in the 57th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Adam Northe saved Rot-Weiss-Essen from getting behind. Nino Haag could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 62nd minute of the match, but Adam Northe made a huge save. After 63rd play minutes Halit Yöner shot 0-5, a short shot which went by Adam Northe and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 68th minute SV Berkenbrück were awarded a corner. Tino Olck went to the cornerflag to take it. Adam Northe took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nino Haag, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Halit Yöner in the 79th minute of play forced Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalkeeper Adam Northe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Adam Northe was out of position in the 81 minute of play, and Halit Yöner capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Halit Yöner really showed his touch with that goal: 0-6. The Rot-Weiss-Essen fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. SV Berkenbrück were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
