Anestis Kotsopoulos scored 0-3 in the 25th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Albrecht Kamp, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, SC Weser Kickers's Thaddäus Dörnbrack got a free kick in the 32nd minute. After 33 minutes of play, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Andreas Teichmann made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Disappointed in the 0-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Anestis Kotsopoulos to strike the kick off in the second half. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Albrecht Kamp prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ansgar Küpper-Adebisi in the 69th minute of play forced SC Weser Kickers's goalkeeper Albrecht Kamp to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Anestis Kotsopoulos's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Albrecht Kamp was relentless in the 79th minute of the game. With an all-out effort, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Albrecht Kamp threw himself towards the right post 82 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Anestis Kotsopoulos, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Björn Berndt hit a great ball. When Anestis Kotsopoulos came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Rot-Weiss-Essen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Anestis Kotsopoulos couldn't finish the play. Albrecht Kamp took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Anestis Kotsopoulos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. SC Weser Kickers's Albrecht Kamp played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Anestis Kotsopoulos in the 98th minute of play. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Rot-Weiss-Essen had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
