Sten Cicchetti showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gene Kuster in the 20th minute of the match. In the 24th minute, AS Gnosca's Hardy Blättler seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Hardy Blättler the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of AS Gnosca protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Hardy Blättler had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 23 minutes into the game, one of AS Gnosca:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Aveiro united's Sten Cicchetti played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gene Kuster in the 34th minute of play. In the 41st minute, Marlo Sprecher got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to AS Gnosca getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Curtis Aebli hit a great ball.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gene Kuster was the one to do the kick off. After 55 minutes, Fernando Beyer mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the AS Gnosca and the Aveiro united players grew even worse after the yellow card. The audience thought a goal was coming when Torin Hofmann got free with Sten Cicchetti in the 73rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. AS Gnosca were awarded a corner in the 75th minute after Aveiro united's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Felix Berthelette took the corner. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gene Kuster in the 82nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Sten Cicchetti saved Aveiro united from getting behind. When Beppe Erasmo came up free with the goalie in the 85th minute, the AS Gnosca fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Beppe Erasmo couldn't finish the play. The supporters of AS Gnosca booed when Aveiro united was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gianni Theiler didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Aveiro united support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
