The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Gilberto Gygax received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 2nd minute. Serge Frei tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 12 minutes into the game, Michael Archambault was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Volketswil's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Graben the free kick. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 11th minute of the game. One of FC Volketswil:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Graben:s goal. The referee gave Graben a penalty, 13 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Claudius Wy, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of FC Volketswil's Serge Frei. 0-1. Graben's Udo Wider proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 18th minute of the match, managed to save Graben from getting a goal against them. Yvan Koch kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. In the 23rd minute Bernhard Jolidon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Serge Frei saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. FC Volketswil's Serge Frei played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hennes Giacomini in the 24th minute of play. Bernhard Jolidon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Udo Wider made a fantastic save in the 33rd minute, when Jaromir Fuchs sent off a good shot on target. FC Volketswil's Serge Frei played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hennes Giacomini in the 37th minute of play. After having played for 40 minutes, Bernhard Jolidon managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Graben's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bernhard Jolidon was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bernhard Jolidon in the 46th minute of play forced FC Volketswil's goalkeeper Serge Frei to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Hennes Giacomini to strike the kick off in the second half. Udo Wider made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jaromir Fuchs in the 52nd minute of play. Salvatore Ruano hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. Serge Frei showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hennes Giacomini in the 64th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, FC Volketswil's Eduard Gschwind got a free kick in the 67th minute. Claudius Wy was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 68th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. In the 71st minute, Gilberto Gygax left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Graben fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. Bernhard Jolidons short, quick shot in the 82ndth minute got Serge Frei to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. A hard shot 87 in the game by Bernhard Jolidon from a close distance when the talented Serge Frei managed to make a qualified save. FC Volketswil's players were relieved. Bernhard Jolidon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Graben booed when FC Volketswil was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Yvan Koch didn't get a good kick on the ball. Graben's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Claudius Wy in the 93rd minute. Graben's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
