Joop Leemans's late challenge caught a pipoignons's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Joop Leemans helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to YR Mechelen getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Joop Leemans hit a great ball. Conrad Vinck, 8 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind pipoignons's goalkeeper Mateo Vanhove, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Mateo Vanhove took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Andries Mangelschot, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. YR Mechelen's Andries Mangelschot got a good chance for a goal in the 35th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Michael Huybreghts fell near the penalty area in the 36th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored pipoignons's protests and gave Michael Huybreghts a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to pipoignons getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Michael Huybreghts hit a great ball. Andries Mangelschot received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Mateo Vanhove tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Andries Mangelschot might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Mateo Vanhove. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Andries Mangelschot ran back to his position shaking his head. Mateo Vanhove took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Andries Mangelschot, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

When the match clock showed 59 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Andries Mangelschot sped through pipoignons's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Mateo Vanhove. Andries Mangelschot recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Mateo Vanhove didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Adolphe De Maerschalckx went, in the 68th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-0 was the resulting score. Mateo Vanhove showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Andries Mangelschot in the 71st minute of the match. If Andries Mangelschot had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Mateo Vanhove showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Andries Mangelschot, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. Andries Mangelschot sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.
