Curtis Collingwood didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ray Hales went, in the 9th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Leroy Bensley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 15thth minute of the game Ray Hales who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Porto's Curtis Collingwood was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ronan Titmus during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ronan Titmus kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 20 minutes, Leroy Bensley took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Ron Briant to make any attempt to save it. Leroy Bensley was extremely unlucky when he, in the 25th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bradley Carlick got free with Ron Briant in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Curtis Collingwood showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ray Hales, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Pierce Armstrong scored 2-2 in the 45th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Curtis Collingwood, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Ron Briant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leroy Bensley in the 53rd minute of the match. A collision led to Lancing AFC getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Fitz Gray hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 60 minutes, Ray Hales took a quick shot and it went in 2-3 without a chance for Curtis Collingwood to make any attempt to save it. After some fancy dribbling in the 67th minute, Pierce Armstrong managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lancing AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Pierce Armstrong was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Curtis Collingwood breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ray Hales received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Curtis Collingwood came out and tried to block the shot, but Ray Hales slotted it home off the left post making it 2-4 in the 72nd minute. In the 79th minute, Pierce Armstrong got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Leroy Bensley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Ron Briant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 83rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Lancing AFC's goalkeeper Ron Briant, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 86th minute Bradley Carlick shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ron Briant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Lancing AFC's Ray Hales slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Curtis Collingwood. That made the score 2-5 after 87 minutes of play. Pierce Armstrong struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Curtis Collingwood didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Lancing AFC. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Lancing AFC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
