The crowd rose to their feet as FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Frederico Hendrickx slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Rick Brearley. That made the score 1-1 after 12 minutes of play. 15 minutes into the match, Frederico Hendrickx dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Rick Brearley, 2-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Frederico Hendrickx in the 27th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rick Brearley saved Celtic de Sarda from getting behind. Zhang Hong Xun made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Niklas Pettersson in the 28th minute of play. After some careless play in the Celtic de Sarda defense, Frederico Hendrickx kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rick Brearley. The Celtic de Sarda fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rick Brearley should have stopped the shot. In the 32ndth minute of the game Jonathan Stamnes who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Zhang Hong Xun was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When the match clock showed 34 minutes, the score became 4-1 when Frederico Hendrickx sped through Celtic de Sarda's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Rick Brearley. With a little luck, Celtic de Sarda's Rick Brearley got control of the ball when Frederico Hendrickx tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 42 played minutes FC Shakhtar Donetsk got a freekick which was hit by Edward Gilchrist. Zhang Hong Xun took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Austin Mills, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Frederico Hendrickx stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The FC Shakhtar Donetsk fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 8-1. 81 minutes into the game, FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Frederico Hendrickx nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rick Brearley made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 9-1. Rick Brearley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jonathan Stamnes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. For all the effort they put into the match, the Celtic de Sarda players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
