Covasna's Olimpiu Ciobanu quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Mircea Corocăescu, made in the 14th minute of the game. Covasna's supporters rose to their feet, but Ionel Zoreanu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pavel Cârnațiu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Olimpiu Ciobanu struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Pavel Cârnațiu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Covasna. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ionel Zoreanu made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Claudiu Griguță in the 51st minute of play forced Covasna's goalkeeper Robert Filimon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Covasna booed when Penes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Petruț Georgescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Covasna's attentive Olimpiu Ciobanu managed to snatch the ball when Mircea Corocăescu made a throw-in in the 59th minute of the game. If Ionel Zoreanu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Mădălin Mârza hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. In the 93rd minute, Ionel Zoreanu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Claudiu Griguță had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
