Marius Radovan made a fantastic save in the 10th minute, when Cristian Ploieșteanu sent off a good shot on target. After 12 played minutes Dunărea Călăraşi got a freekick which was hit by Moise Panaitoiu. Marius Radovan was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Cristian Ploieșteanu showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 13 minute of play. With a little luck, Dunărea Călăraşi's Marius Radovan got control of the ball when Florín Răducioiu tried to sneak it across the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

With his leg Hami Geçer managed to avoid a goal in the 72ndth minute, when Dunărea Călăraşi's Marian Mustăcilă fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Marcel Enachescu hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. Steaua Bucuresti's supporters rose to their feet, but Florín Răducioiu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marius Radovan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Florín Răducioiu in the 90th minute of play forced Dunărea Călăraşi's goalkeeper Marius Radovan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Steaua Bucuresti walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
