New York Red Bulls's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. After 10 played minutes Continental Buzau got a freekick which was hit by Zheng Cheng Zheng. Radu Barbălată took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Francisc Ştiubei, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 12 minutes into the match, Continental Buzau's goal looked a bit too open when George Schiau came free, but Radu Barbălată reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. New York Red Bulls's Radu Jilăveanu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jean-Pierre Cardinal in the 25th minute of play. Radu Jilăveanu was out of position in the 31 minute of play, and Zheng Cheng Zheng capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Zheng Cheng Zheng really showed his touch with that goal: 5-0. 35 minutes into the match, George Schiau notched a goal, 5-1, to the right of Continental Buzau's Radu Barbălată. Radu Barbălată was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Radu Jilăveanu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zheng Cheng Zheng, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. In the 39th minute Jean-Pierre Cardinal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Radu Jilăveanu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Continental Buzau defense, Nazım Taci kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Radu Barbălată. The Continental Buzau fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Radu Barbălată should have stopped the shot. If Eduard Birișu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Af the end of the first half the score was 5-2. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nazım Taci stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Jean-Pierre Cardinal left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Continental Buzau fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 6-2. After 56 minutes of play, Continental Buzau's Zheng Cheng Zheng made it 7-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Radu Jilăveanu was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 59th minute, Nicodim Bunescu left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Continental Buzau fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 8-2. Eduard Birișu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Radu Jilăveanu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 69 minutes into the match, Jean-Pierre Cardinal notched a goal, 9-2, to the right of New York Red Bulls's Radu Jilăveanu. Radu Jilăveanu was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Jean-Pierre Cardinal took the ball and in the 71 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Radu Jilăveanu. Radu Jilăveanu dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 10-2. Radu Barbălată made an important save on a dangerous shot by Francisc Ştiubei in the 74th minute. In the 77th minute, Jean-Pierre Cardinal ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Radu Jilăveanu was frozen by the shot and now it was 11-2. Radu Jilăveanu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zheng Cheng Zheng in the 83rd minute of play. Radu Jilăveanu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nicodim Bunescu in the 85th minute of the match. In the 86th match minute, Continental Buzau was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jean-Pierre Cardinal to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zheng Cheng Zheng in the 94th minute of play forced New York Red Bulls's goalkeeper Radu Jilăveanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the referee ended the match the Continental Buzau players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
