Horea Mercescu dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-4. In the 26th minute Pavel Mazăre shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Horea Mercescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, New York Red Bulls's Cazimir Tufescu got a free kick in the 29th minute. David Zamfirescu took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 30th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Horea Mercescu. New York Red Bulls's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 32nd minute of the match Purcaresti CSS got a corner. New York Red Bulls's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. David Zamfirescu ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Purcaresti CSS's David Zamfirescu to fire away a dangerous shot which Horea Mercescu despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The Purcaresti CSS fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-5.
