The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The referee ignored AEK Rethimnou's protests and gave Anthimos Prokovas a yellow card for diving instead. Anthimos Prokovas hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. Themistoklis Spilias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nontas Argyrakis having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Manolis Kalofolias managed to get in a good position for a shot. jimacos's supporters rose to their feet, but Manolis Kalofolias was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nontas Argyrakis breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Themistoklis Spilias struck a weak shot in the 28th minute. Nontas Argyrakis didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for jimacos. When Manolis Kalofolias fell near the penalty area in the 29th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored jimacos's protests and gave Manolis Kalofolias a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, jimacos's Manolis Kalofolias got a free kick in the 29th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as AEK Rethimnou's Paris Leontiadis slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Notis Katsafanas. That made the score 1-0 after 32 minutes of play. When Themistoklis Spilias came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the jimacos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Themistoklis Spilias couldn't finish the play. Notis Katsafanas made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Paris Leontiadis sent off a good shot on target. Themistoklis Spilias sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Anthimos Prokovas to make the kick off. After 59 played minutes AEK Rethimnou got a freekick which was hit by Kyriakos Anastasakos. In the 62nd minute, Themistoklis Spilias fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. A collision led to jimacos getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Apostolos Laskaridis hit a great ball. If Themistoklis Spilias had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Panos Chronopoulos during the 83rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Panos Chronopoulos kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, jimacos's Odysseas Kountouratzis got a free kick in the 85th minute. When Odysseas Kountouratzis came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the jimacos fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Odysseas Kountouratzis couldn't finish the play. In the 96th minute, Odysseas Kountouratzis got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The AEK Rethimnou players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
