When Voitto Toivanen came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Östrabyugo IFK fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Voitto Toivanen couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Östrabyugo IFK booed when FC Matinkylä was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Antti Kuoppala didn't get a good kick on the ball. Uuno Lindfors charged in rather forcefully in the 15th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Uuno Lindfors the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Pellervo Heinikallio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rauno Jaakkola in the 17th minute of the match. After 45 played minutes FC Matinkylä got a freekick which was hit by Antti Kuoppala. FC Matinkylä's Tommi Hilden proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 48th minute of the match, managed to save FC Matinkylä from getting a goal against them.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Voitto Toivanen made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Voitto Toivanen in the 53rd minute of play forced FC Matinkylä's goalkeeper Tommi Hilden to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 55th minute, Voitto Toivanen left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Östrabyugo IFK fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. Voitto Toivanen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tommi Hilden having to interfere. In the 68th minute Voitto Toivanen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tommi Hilden saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Jussi Vuorio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Tommi Hilden made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Voitto Toivanen in the 72nd minute of play. If Jussi Vuorio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Antti Kuoppala's late challenge caught a Östrabyugo IFK's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Antti Kuoppala helped the player get up and apologised. Antti Kuoppala hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match.
