After some fancy dribbling in the 10th minute, Joaquim Carvalho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Salamanca UDS's supporters rose to their feet, but Joaquim Carvalho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. René Higuita breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 13thth minute of the game Kamel Espitalier who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Derik's René Higuita was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 19th minute Kamel Espitalier shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but René Higuita saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cemil Yalman kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. René Higuita showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from David Holmstedt in the 22nd minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Leopold Heinloo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but René Higuita was relentless in the 23rd minute of the game. If Rahmi Özerol had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Jay-Jay Okocha made the kick off in the second half. Leopold Heinloo took the ball and in the 63 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised René Higuita. René Higuita dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jay-Jay Okocha in the 66th minute of play forced Salamanca UDS's goalkeeper Saip Baltaş to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Saip Baltaş didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Rahmi Özerol went, in the 68th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joaquim Carvalho in the 71st minute of play forced Derik's goalkeeper René Higuita to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 72 minutes had been played when some careless play by Derik's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Kamel Espitalier was slow to take the kick. During this time Salamanca UDS's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on Salamanca UDS's corner Tugay Okkan fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and René Higuita quite easily take care of the ball. Saip Baltaş showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jay-Jay Okocha, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. Azmi Tuğtaşı was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 83 minutes into the match. After 82 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. Salamanca UDS's David Holmstedt got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
