In the 23rd minute, Natawoot Sikapan had to be helped off the field due to a pulled leg muscle. 23 minutes into the game, Thanasit Morpeak was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Olympique de Marseille's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Knattspyrnufélag Akureyri the free kick. Knattspyrnufélag Akureyri's Nons Kheangraeng was substituted for Natawoot Sikapan. A collision led to Olympique de Marseille getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Thanasit Morpeak hit a great ball. Sami Veikkanen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Piyapong Jamjai in the 25th minute of the match. 27 minutes had been played when some careless play by Olympique de Marseille's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Thosapol Laksanapiya was slow to take the kick. During this time Knattspyrnufélag Akureyri's players had a chance to rest. The corner led to Knattspyrnufélag Akureyri's Wachirawit Kongpetch getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. In the 33rd minute of the match, Tawan Maspakorn tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Pikanate Savetvet saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 34th match minute, Olympique de Marseille was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mahdy Ismail to maneuver through the defense. Domenec Cediel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Sami Veikkanen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Tawan Maspakorn kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Pikanate Savetvet. That made the score 1-1 in the 39 minute of play. If Artemio Bernal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tawan Maspakorn to make the kick off. In the 51st minute Sadayut Thanateerasud shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pikanate Savetvet saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tawan Maspakorn recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Sami Veikkanen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wachirawit Kongpetch in the 58th minute of the match. 63 minutes into the match, Thanasit Morpeak had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Pikanate Savetvet. Knattspyrnufélag Akureyri's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Thanasit Morpeak was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. Thanasit Morpeak scored 3-2 in the 68th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Pikanate Savetvet, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Sami Veikkanen made a fantastic save in the 71st minute, when Domenec Cediel sent off a good shot on target. Pikanate Savetvet made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thanasit Morpeak in the 73rd minute of play. Piyapong Jamjai could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 74th minute of the match, but Sami Veikkanen made a huge save. Knattspyrnufélag Akureyri's Warayu Plpl was substituted for Piyapong Jamjai. The supporters of Knattspyrnufélag Akureyri booed when Olympique de Marseille was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Thanasit Morpeak didn't get a good kick on the ball. Chao Sinthubua kicked well hit freekick during the 89th minute of the match. The long shot by Thosapol Laksanapiya in the 90th minute really tested Sami Veikkanen's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. When Mahdy Ismail came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the Olympique de Marseille fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mahdy Ismail couldn't finish the play.
