Spectators: 8016 (Terracing: 6014, Seating: 1843, VIP seats: 159) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Brandon Bunworth started the match with the kick off. The supporters of Atherton booed when Grimulators was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benney Krause didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Eden Cubitt's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Burt Blattman was relentless in the 6th minute of the game. When Gregg Jeavons came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the Atherton fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gregg Jeavons couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Grimulators's zone, Gregg Jeavons stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Burt Blattman came out of the goal and Gregg Jeavons tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 26th minute of the match Dwight Tearle sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Luke Veitch skillfully saved the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 27th minute, Brandon Bunworth managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grimulators's supporters rose to their feet, but Brandon Bunworth was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Luke Veitch breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 30 minutes into the match, Atherton's Eden Cubitt sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Burt Blattman narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Gregg Jeavons had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Burt Blattman came out of the goal in the 37th minute to try and stop a shot by Atherton's Eden Cubitt. But to his dismay, Eden Cubitt quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gregg Jeavons was the one to do the kick off. After having played for 52 minutes, Antonio Addison managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Grimulators's supporters crossed their fingers, but Antonio Addison was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Grimulators's Dwight Tearle got a free kick in the 56th minute. Fabian Smoothy kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gregg Jeavons in the 71st minute of play forced Grimulators's goalkeeper Burt Blattman to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 72 played minutes Atherton got a freekick which was hit by Howie Walkington. After a defensive mix-up in Grimulators's zone, Gregg Jeavons stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Burt Blattman came out of the goal and Gregg Jeavons tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Eden Cubitt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Eden Cubitt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Burt Blattman tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Burt Blattman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gregg Jeavons, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. Fabian Smoothy blasted a shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Burt Blattman having to make a save. Eden Cubitt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Atherton played a much better game than Grimulators and deserved their victory. The Grimulators players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
