The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With a little luck, Melbourne 1980's Christian Tout got control of the ball when Jarrod Trenoweth tried to sneak it across the goal line. 22 minutes into the game, Richard Hinwood cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Bath Tarrant was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Ike Obrien's late challenge caught a Henrietta's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ike Obrien helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Henrietta booed when Melbourne 1980 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ike Obrien didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Henrietta's zone, Richard Hinwood stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bath Tarrant came out of the goal and Richard Hinwood tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Richard Hinwood recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a little luck, Melbourne 1980's Christian Tout got control of the ball when Jarrod Trenoweth tried to sneak it across the goal line. Henrietta's Blade Freeman got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

54 minutes into the match, Rudolph Oconnell notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Melbourne 1980's Christian Tout. Christian Tout was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 60th match minute, Melbourne 1980 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ike Obrien to maneuver through the defense. Blade Freeman's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Christian Tout read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 74th minute of play. Brooks Harding kicked well hit freekick during the 85th minute of the match. If Jarrod Trenoweth had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Rudolph Oconnell blasted a shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Christian Tout having to make a save. When Ike Obrien was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 89 minutes had been played. After 89 played minutes Melbourne 1980 got a freekick which was hit by Ike Obrien. In the 92nd minute, Arneil Munster hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Richard Hinwood received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Bath Tarrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
