If Elliot Hodge had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dan Babbage's late challenge caught a Tawonga's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dan Babbage helped the player get up and apologised. Dan Babbage kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. After 32 played minutes Lucyvale got a freekick which was hit by Dan Babbage. After 34 played minutes Tawonga got a freekick which was hit by Matt Cridland. Jervis Waller fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alberto Dollymore having to interfere. Elliot Hodge received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Alberto Dollymore tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 48 minutes, Earl Limmer managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Lucyvale's supporters crossed their fingers, but Earl Limmer was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gregory Locke stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Tawonga's Jonty Beverley got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Gregory Locke sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Matthew Loch didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gregory Locke went, in the 63rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Matthew Loch stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Earl Limmer's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. Matthew Loch showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gregory Locke, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. Gregory Locke sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 79 played minutes Tawonga got a freekick which was hit by Rich Beins. The supporters of Tawonga booed when Lucyvale was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edwin Miels didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 83rd minute, Lewis Hodson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 87th minute Gregory Locke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matthew Loch saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lucyvale's Earl Limmer got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Alberto Dollymore showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Elliot Hodge in the 96th minute of the match. Tawonga's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
