After 22 minutes of play, 69ers's Ivan Todman made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Carson Feutrill was left in no man's land by his defense there! 69ers's Ivan Todman got a good chance for a goal in the 28th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Melbourne 2023's Rudolph Sibbold got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Elliott Sibbold fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Darley Hunter having to interfere. After 38 played minutes 69ers got a freekick which was hit by Roland Inwood. Roland Inwood charged in rather forcefully in the 39th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Roland Inwood the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Roland Inwood kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in 69ers's zone, Rudolph Sibbold stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Darley Hunter came out of the goal and Rudolph Sibbold tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ivan Todman to make the kick off. Rudolph Sibbold received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Darley Hunter tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Darley Hunter showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rudolph Sibbold in the 55th minute of the match. Payton Kerville kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. Elliott Sibbold received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Darley Hunter tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rudolph Sibbold recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Elliott Sibbold had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Roland Inwood hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. Elliott Sibbold sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rudolph Sibbold in the 75th minute of play forced 69ers's goalkeeper Darley Hunter to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 80 minutes into the match, Payton Kerville had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Carson Feutrill. Melbourne 2023's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Payton Kerville was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. Melbourne 2023's Elliott Sibbold got a good chance for a goal in the 89th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rudolph Sibbold received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Darley Hunter tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ivan Todman might have been able to make a better finish in the 95th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Carson Feutrill. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ivan Todman ran back to his position shaking his head. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Melbourne 2023 lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
