Welford's Aron Hopkins played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Biggs Peterson in the 21st minute of play. If Neale Quinnell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Matt Franklin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Biggs Peterson blasted a shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Aron Hopkins having to make a save. Aron Hopkins showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hank Mcgaw in the 39th minute of the match. If Neale Quinnell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Welford's zone, Neale Quinnell stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aron Hopkins came out of the goal and Neale Quinnell tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

In the 53rd match minute, Welford was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kane Wayland to maneuver through the defense. AFC Sutherland played a much better game than Welford and deserved their victory. The Welford players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
