GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Augusto Cordario in the 9th minute of play. After 16 minutes GuateFortín's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Filomeno Montrell who took care of the corner kick. A well-hit corner resulted in Ronan Mistral heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Arnoldo Mel kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. Augusto Cordario fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nery Pumpido having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sven-Edvin Jansson got free with Erwin Huygens in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 30 played minutes GuateFortín got a freekick which was hit by Christian Najarro. 38 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's Sven-Edvin Jansson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Erwin Huygens narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 39 minutes had been played when some careless play by Velez Sarsfield's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Máximo Perrone was slow to take the kick. During this time GuateFortín's players had a chance to rest. In the 46th match minute, GuateFortín was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Claudio Cerritos to maneuver through the defense.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Máximo Perrone made a kick off. After a rather tough play, Velez Sarsfield's Augusto Cordario got a free kick in the 51st minute. A collision led to GuateFortín getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Claudio Cerritos hit a great ball. It was beautiful to see Velez Sarsfield's Filomeno Montrell in action when he in the 55th minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! After a defensive mix-up in Velez Sarsfield's zone, Máximo Perrone stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Erwin Huygens came out of the goal and Máximo Perrone tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. GuateFortín's Stanyo Búnkov was substituted for Zico Zellier. Arnoldo Mel's late challenge caught a GuateFortín's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Arnoldo Mel helped the player get up and apologised. In the 73rd minute, Arnoldo Mel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Velez Sarsfield were awarded a corner in the 82th minute after GuateFortín's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ronan Mistral took the corner. After taking down the ball on Velez Sarsfield's corner Ago Tramp fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Nery Pumpido quite easily take care of the ball. Velez Sarsfield's Javier Pinola managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Danilo Ocampo in the 85 minute of the game. Nery Pumpido made a fantastic save in the 91st minute, when Ago Tramp sent off a good shot on target.
