Maurinho Mendonça showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. In the 23rd minute İbrahim Efe Topdemir shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dida Martins saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 28 played minutes Turkey got a freekick which was hit by Ahmet Boran Aktay. The audience thought a goal was coming when Maurinho Mendonça got free with Cankut Wakabayashi in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The Turkey fans' excitement grew in the 31st match minute when Turkey's Turgut Soyuer looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Dida Martins took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Turgut Soyuer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Turkey defense, Maurinho Mendonça kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Cankut Wakabayashi. The Turkey fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cankut Wakabayashi should have stopped the shot. Maurinho Mendonça fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cankut Wakabayashi having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

A collision led to Brazil getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Erivaldo Borges hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 53 minutes, Turgut Soyuer put it in 2-2 from a short distance just to the right of Dida Martins. After 57 minutes of play, Turkey's Turgut Soyuer made it 2-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Dida Martins was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 63rdth minute of the game Maurinho Mendonça who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Turkey's Cankut Wakabayashi was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 68 minutes into the match, Brazil's Maurinho Mendonça sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Cankut Wakabayashi narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Dida Martins showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cuma Oruk, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. The Turkey supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Turkey would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
