Baltazar Gallardo made a fantastic save in the 18th minute, when Eduardo da Silva sent off a good shot on target. Marko Livaja hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. Jorge Guerra's late challenge caught a Croatia's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jorge Guerra helped the player get up and apologised. After 24 played minutes Guatemala got a freekick which was hit by Jorge Guerra. Zlatko Biondić took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 25th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Baltazar Gallardo. Guatemala's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 26 minutes into the match, Edgardo Navarro notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Croatia's Nebojša Jerić. Nebojša Jerić was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 28 minutes into the match, Guatemala's goalkeeper Baltazar Gallardo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Eduardo da Silva. Eduardo da Silva recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Guatemala's Baltazar Gallardo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eduardo da Silva in the 32nd minute of play. 36 minutes in the game Juan José Ferraro did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Selvin Umaña. In the 36th match minute, Guatemala was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Douglas Cerna to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Eduardo da Silva got free with Baltazar Gallardo in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The audience was convinced that Marko Livaja's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Baltazar Gallardo was relentless in the 39th minute of the game. In the 41st minute, Zlatko Biondić hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Baltazar Gallardo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marko Livaja in the 46th minute of the match. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The wind increased when Marko Livaja made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Edgardo Navarro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 53 minutes into the match, Guatemala's goal looked a bit too open when Vladan Jelovica came free, but Baltazar Gallardo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Croatia's Damjan Petričević got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Marko Livaja in the 55th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Baltazar Gallardo saved Guatemala from getting behind. Croatia's Nebojša Jerić proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save Croatia from getting a goal against them. The audience was convinced that Marko Livaja's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Baltazar Gallardo was relentless in the 64th minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Juan José Ferraro got free with Nebojša Jerić in the 67th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With his leg Nebojša Jerić managed to avoid a goal in the 67thth minute, when Guatemala's Juan José Ferraro fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. When Marko Livaja fell near the penalty area in the 68th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Croatia's protests and gave Marko Livaja a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Croatia getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Marko Livaja hit a great ball. Croatia made a substitution. Mate Zahora replaced Tihomir Antić. Croatia's Duško Zambata was substituted for Marko Livaja. Guatemala made a substitution. Juan Orozco replaced Selvin Umaña. The supporters of Guatemala booed when Croatia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marko Livaja didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Guatemala's Edgardo Navarro got a free kick in the 71st minute. Juan Orozco kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Duško Zambata in the 76th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Baltazar Gallardo saved Guatemala from getting behind. Baltazar Gallardo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Duško Zambata in the 77th minute of the match. In the 84th minute, Vladan Jelovica ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Baltazar Gallardo was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Duško Zambata took the ball and in the 91 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Baltazar Gallardo. Baltazar Gallardo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. Duško Zambata scored 3-1 in the 95th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Baltazar Gallardo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. There was no doubt that Croatia were the better team. Croatia's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
