An unexpectedly hard shot by Adrien Amrein in the 3rd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Johnny Ibarra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador's Johnny Ibarra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Martin Rutsch in the 4th minute of play. Johnny Ibarra made a fantastic save in the 5th minute, when Gutierre Lauri sent off a good shot on target. Gutierre Lauri fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Johnny Ibarra having to interfere. The supporters of Switzerland booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Casado Besteo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gutierre Lauris short, quick shot in the 15thth minute got Johnny Ibarra to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Gutierre Lauri who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 15thth minute tested the skills of Johnny Ibarra when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 17 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gutierre Lauri was slow to take the kick. During this time Switzerland's players had a chance to rest. 18 minutes into the match, Ximenez Gort notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Switzerland's Kim-André van der Schans. Kim-André van der Schans was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Johnny Ibarra was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Gutierre Lauri showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 21 minute of play. 26 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Ximenez Gort sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Kim-André van der Schans narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 28 minutes into the game, Ximenez Gort cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Kim-André van der Schans was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ximenez Gort in the 31st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Kim-André van der Schans prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 37thth minute of the game Ximenez Gort who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Switzerland's Kim-André van der Schans was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 41 minutes of play, Ecuador's Ximenez Gort made it 1-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Kim-André van der Schans was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 48th minute after Switzerland's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Zilar Aleson took the corner. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Switzerland's goalie and right to José-Francisco Durazno. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Switzerland's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. The Switzerland players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ecuador were winning 1-4.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ximenez Gort was the one to do the kick off. After 54 played minutes Switzerland got a freekick which was hit by Clifford Heggli. Thanks to some nice moves Ximenez Gort could shoot a difficult shot in the 55th minute, which Kim-André van der Schans however easily saved by the left post. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Zilar Aleson hit a great ball. In the 59th minute the ball was on its way in behind Switzerland's goalkeeper Kim-André van der Schans, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 60 minutes Switzerland's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Zilar Aleson who took care of the corner kick. Ximenez Gort's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kim-André van der Schans read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 63rd minute of play. Alejandro Espina could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 70th minute of the match, but Kim-André van der Schans made a huge save.
