Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nial Peyton in the 15th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Aleksandr Ivannikov prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by William Rigg in the 16th minute of play forced Russia's goalkeeper Aleksandr Ivannikov to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. James Novak showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roman Baibakov, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. The supporters of Russia booed when England was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ralph Dolby didn't get a good kick on the ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Roman Baibakov made a kick off. In the 51st match minute, Russia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vladimir Moskvin to maneuver through the defense. After 52 played minutes, England's Ronnie Odell shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Aleksandr Ivannikov came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in England reached it. Aleksandr Ivannikov made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nial Peyton in the 56th minute of play. Vadim Andrienko succeeded in the game's 90th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-1. The supporters of England booed when Russia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alexander Makhovikov didn't get a good kick on the ball.
