To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Malaysia were awarded a corner in the 19th minute after Serbia's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Bongky Reza took the corner. It was a well-played corner which Hardy Sinambela managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. After 24 played minutes Malaysia got a freekick which was hit by Azad Jasmin. Bulek Idris's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jeremije Mirković read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. With a little luck, Serbia's Jeremije Mirković got control of the ball when Azad Jasmin tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 38th minute Bulek Idris shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jeremije Mirković saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jeremije Mirković took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Azad Jasmin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Fery Bangun's late challenge caught a Serbia's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Fery Bangun helped the player get up and apologised. After 48 played minutes Malaysia got a freekick which was hit by Fery Bangun. The supporters of Serbia booed when Malaysia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 49 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fery Bangun didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 49 played minutes, Serbia's Danijel Đogatović shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Azhar Sulaiman came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Serbia reached it. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Andrey Shevchenko in the 56thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Azhar Sulaiman, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Jeremije Mirković showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hardy Sinambela in the 59th minute of the match. Grgur Ćulibrk might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Azhar Sulaiman. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Grgur Ćulibrk ran back to his position shaking his head. Serbia made a substitution. Ugochukwutubelum Antetokounmpo replaced Dragan Gligorijević. Malaysia made a substitution. Dewa Ketaren replaced Fery Bangun. Jeremije Mirković showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bulek Idris in the 72nd minute of the match. Bulek Idris's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jeremije Mirković read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 74th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bulek Idris in the 87th minute of play forced Serbia's goalkeeper Jeremije Mirković to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 88th minute Ugochukwutubelum Antetokounmpo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Azhar Sulaiman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bulek Idris in the 91st minute of play forced Serbia's goalkeeper Jeremije Mirković to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 94 minutes into the match, Bulek Idris had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jeremije Mirković. Serbia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Bulek Idris was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Serbia's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Malaysia had won, even though Serbia had held more of the ball.
