Homer Field sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hardy Sinambela in the 25th minute of play forced USA's goalkeeper Lyle Flanagan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lyle Flanagan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bulek Idris in the 27th minute of the match. In the 31st minute USA were awarded a corner. Rex Hathaway went to the cornerflag to take it. 31 minutes into the match, Francisco Parra notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Malaysia's Azhar Sulaiman. Azhar Sulaiman was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 36 minutes into the game, Malaysia's Hardy Sinambela nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Lyle Flanagan made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. 41 minutes into the match, USA's goal looked a bit too open when Hardy Sinambela came free, but Lyle Flanagan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 44th minute, Shaun Mahoney got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bulek Idris was the one to do the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Malaysia's goal looked a bit too open when Rex Hathaway came free, but Azhar Sulaiman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 53rd minute USA were awarded a corner. Rex Hathaway went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Rex Hathaway almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Malaysia's Azhar Sulaiman did a great save. Azhar Sulaiman made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Shaun Mahoney in the 58th minute of play. After 60 minutes Malaysia's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Rex Hathaway who took care of the corner kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Shaun Mahoney in the 62nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Azhar Sulaiman saved Malaysia from getting behind. 63 minutes into the game, Bulek Idris recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Lyle Flanagan. Bulek Idris showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-3. Malaysia's Wahyu Dermawan was substituted for Hardy Sinambela. USA made a substitution. Arin Babayants replaced Homer Field. Azhar Sulaiman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vern Meza in the 70th minute of the match. 72 minutes into the match, Vern Meza had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Azhar Sulaiman. Malaysia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Vern Meza was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-3. USA made a substitution. Stevie Thomas replaced Rex Hathaway. 77 minutes into the game, Bulek Idris cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-4. Lyle Flanagan was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Lyle Flanagan made a fantastic save in the 80th minute, when Bulek Idris sent off a good shot on target. Azhar Sulaiman stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Vern Meza's shot from short distance in the 83rd minute. Lyle Flanagan acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 85th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Gendo Panjaitan. Azhar Sulaiman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Stevie Thomas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the USA defense, Azad Jasmin kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lyle Flanagan. The USA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lyle Flanagan should have stopped the shot. Vern Meza sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Malaysia's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
