After 4 minutes of play, Netherlands's Frenkie de Jong made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Netherlands's Tadej Pogačar proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 13th minute of the match, managed to save Netherlands from getting a goal against them. In the 19th minute Adrien Amrein shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tadej Pogačar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee felt a red card was in order, 34 minutes into the game, when Donald Spoel put in a rough tackle. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 34th minute of the game. One of Netherlands:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Switzerland:s goal.
