In the 21st minute Wally Guzman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oliverio Kahn saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 22nd minute Dominik Brett shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlos Arsenault saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 24 minutes into the match, Canada's Wally Guzman sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Oliverio Kahn narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 33rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Canada's goalkeeper Carlos Arsenault, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 35 minutes had been played when some careless play by Canada's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Edbert Jahr was slow to take the kick. During this time Germany's players had a chance to rest. Moritz Hasenjäger fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Arsenault having to interfere. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Wally Guzman was the one to do the kick off. After having played for 51 minutes, André Gauger managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Germany's supporters crossed their fingers, but André Gauger was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With an all-out effort, Germany's Carlos Arsenault threw himself towards the right post 54 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Manfred Hönisch, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 57 minutes into the match, Canada's goal looked a bit too open when Ture Juniel came free, but Carlos Arsenault reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A hard shot 59 in the game by André Gauger from a close distance when the talented Carlos Arsenault managed to make a qualified save. Canada's players were relieved. With a little luck, Canada's Carlos Arsenault got control of the ball when Dominik Brett tried to sneak it across the goal line. 64 minutes into the game, Javier Behrens was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Germany's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Canada the free kick. After a rather tough play, Canada's Jamey Hankins got a free kick in the 81st minute. With a little luck, Canada's Carlos Arsenault got control of the ball when Edwin Grabert tried to sneak it across the goal line. Jamey Hankins hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. Carlos Arsenault was a little too slow when Roberto-Carlos da Silva got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 93rd minute. The score was now 1-2.
