Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Wally Guzman started the match with the kick off. Cássio Velasco scored 1-0 in the 4th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Carlos Arsenault, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Canada's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Kelly Pearson in the 9th minute. A nice corner shot did that Kelly Pearson got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Nilmar de Castro quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cássio Velasco in the 12th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Carlos Arsenault prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a little luck, Canada's Carlos Arsenault got control of the ball when Cássio Velasco tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 19th minute Cássio Velasco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlos Arsenault saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nilmar de Castro came out of the goal in the 24th minute to try and stop a shot by Canada's Wally Guzman. But to his dismay, Wally Guzman quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. The audience was convinced that Wally Guzman's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nilmar de Castro was relentless in the 29th minute of the game. After 31 played minutes Brazil got a freekick which was hit by Nestor Soeiro. Brazil's Nilmar de Castro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kelly Pearson in the 32nd minute of play. Carlos Arsenault was out of position in the 35 minute of play, and Cássio Velasco capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Cássio Velasco really showed his touch with that goal: 2-1. In the 47th minute, Brazil's Cássio Velasco ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Carlos Arsenault. Carlos Arsenault yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-1. Brazil's Maurinho Mendonça was substituted for Cássio Velasco. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Morales Moreira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Carlos Arsenault made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Maurinho Mendonça in the 54th minute of play. 58 minutes into the match, Morales Moreira notched a goal, 4-1, to the right of Canada's Carlos Arsenault. Carlos Arsenault was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Carlos Arsenault came out of the goal in the 69th minute to try and stop a shot by Brazil's Maurinho Mendonça. But to his dismay, Maurinho Mendonça quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-1. In the 75th minute the ball was on its way in behind Brazil's goalkeeper Nilmar de Castro, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Carlos Arsenault made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Morales Moreira in the 76th minute of play. Carlos Arsenault showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Morales Moreira, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. In the 84th minute Wally Guzman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nilmar de Castro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Canada's Carlos Arsenault played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maurinho Mendonça in the 87th minute of play. Carlos Arsenault made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Maurinho Mendonça in the 92nd minute of play. Erivaldo Borges hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Wally Guzman kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Nilmar de Castro. That made the score 5-2 in the 97 minute of play. There was no doubt that Brazil were the better team. Brazil's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
