Marco van Basten did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-0 to the left of a surprised Peter-Michael Schmeichel 3 minutes into the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gonzalo Martínez during the 5th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Gonzalo Martínez hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. Peter-Michael Schmeichel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Virgilio Lawrence, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 13th match minute, U21 Poland was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Olaf Gregorczyk to maneuver through the defense. U21 Argentina's Sebastián Junes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arkadiusz Gąsiorek in the 16th minute of play. Sebastián Junes came out of the goal in the 17th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Poland's Iwan Karanowski. But to his dismay, Iwan Karanowski quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. A collision led to U21 Poland getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Olaf Gregorczyk hit a great ball. After 21 played minutes U21 Argentina got a freekick which was hit by Virgilio Lawrence. Sebastián Junes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arkadiusz Gąsiorek, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Peter-Michael Schmeichel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marco van Basten, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, U21 Poland's Peter-Michael Schmeichel got control of the ball when Natalio Martino tried to sneak it across the goal line. A sloppy throw-in by Eugeniusz Tomporowski in the 39th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by U21 Argentina's Juan Huerta. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

U21 Argentina made a substitution. Romulo Casado replaced Virgilio Lawrence. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Romulo Casado made a kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Iwan Karanowski got free with Sebastián Junes in the 55th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Iwan Karanowski struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. Sebastián Junes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Poland. Sebastián Junes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arkadiusz Gąsiorek in the 56th minute of play. When U21 Argentina's Marco van Basten in the 58th minute got a chance for a shot 58th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye U21 Poland's goalie prevented a goal. U21 Argentina's Octavio Bianchi was substituted for Marco van Basten. After 64 played minutes U21 Argentina got a freekick which was hit by Natalio Martino. Peter-Michael Schmeichel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Romulo Casado in the 66th minute of the match. Iwan Karanowski could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 76th minute of the match, but Sebastián Junes made a huge save. Octavio Bianchi hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. Natalio Martino recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Peter-Michael Schmeichel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Octavio Bianchi in the 88th minute of play. Peter-Michael Schmeichel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Romulo Casado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
