In the 16th minute of the match Mexico got a corner. Canada's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Heriberto Lazcano ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Canada's goalie and right to Gilberto Hats. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Canada's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Carlos Arsenault showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vladimiro Lauro in the 20th minute of the match. Canada's Carlos Arsenault played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vladimiro Lauro in the 22nd minute of play. In the 38th minute Indiana Jones shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ovidio Roland saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Carlos Arsenault didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mexico. After some careless play in the Canada defense, Ladislao Erramu kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Carlos Arsenault. The Canada fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Carlos Arsenault should have stopped the shot. 96 minutes into the match, Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Murat Dogan came free, but Ovidio Roland reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
