Bernardo Arias showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Xandão Crouch, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. U21 Costa Rica's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. 42 minutes into the match, U21 Brazil's goal looked a bit too open when Vinicio Medina came free, but Norberto Heerdt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If André Piø had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 49th match minute, U21 Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Donald Alpizar to maneuver through the defense. After the first half U21 Brazil were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Bernardo Arias was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 64 played minutes U21 Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Julio Cortez. André Luís Zanette had several of the U21 Costa Rica's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 90 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-6 score and a disappointed Bernardo Arias as he didn't even see the shot coming. Julio Cortez kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. U21 Brazil's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
