The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Alfredo Lankaster received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Cankut Wakabayashi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lucas Loaiza made a fantastic save in the 24th minute, when Turgut Soyuer sent off a good shot on target. Otton Elizondo made in the 28th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Turkey's Baltazar Delioğlu. When the match had gone on for 31 minutes, Turgut Soyuer took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Lucas Loaiza to make any attempt to save it. After 34 minutes of play, Turkey's Turgut Soyuer made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Lucas Loaiza was left in no man's land by his defense there! Cankut Wakabayashi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alfredo Lankaster, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Cankut Wakabayashi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfredo Lankaster in the 46th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-0.

The wind increased when Turgut Soyuer made the kick off in the second half. Lucas Loaiza showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Turgut Soyuer in the 51st minute of the match. After 53 minutes Costa Rica's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Baltazar Delioğlu who took care of the corner kick. Turkey's Baltazar Delioğlu was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Lucas Loaiza in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. With an all-out effort, Costa Rica's Cankut Wakabayashi threw himself towards the right post 54 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Reiner Fallas, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. When Turgut Soyuer came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the Turkey fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Turgut Soyuer couldn't finish the play. The corner ended in Baltazar Delioğlu almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Costa Rica's Lucas Loaiza did a great save. Cankut Wakabayashi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfredo Lankaster, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lucas Loaiza came out of the goal in the 63rd minute to try and stop a shot by Turkey's Turgut Soyuer. But to his dismay, Turgut Soyuer quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-0. Costa Rica made a substitution. Johan Loria replaced Antonio Orozco. Costa Rica made a substitution. Agustin Villalobos replaced Celso Mesa. In the 68th minute, Reiner Fallas reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Cankut Wakabayashi. The goal made the score 5-1. Cankut Wakabayashi made a fantastic save in the 74th minute, when Reiner Fallas sent off a good shot on target. When the match had gone on for 78 minutes, Turgut Soyuer put it in 6-1 from a short distance just to the right of Lucas Loaiza. Turkey made a substitution. Ali Nurettin replaced Arman Ersan. Turkey's Hüsmen Akbulut was substituted for Turgut Soyuer. 86 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Cezmi Hececi came free, but Lucas Loaiza reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Hüsmen Akbulut's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Lucas Loaiza was relentless in the 91st minute of the game. Turkey's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Baltazar Delioğlu in the 95th minute. Turkey's Baltazar Delioğlu was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Lucas Loaiza in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. For all the effort they put into the match, the Costa Rica players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Turkey.
