Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alessandro Sacchi in the 46th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Vitan Nikolchev prevented the ball from getting in the gole.

In the 86th minute Dave Cilli shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vitan Nikolchev saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Trifon Ivanov fell near the penalty area in the 95th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Bulgaria's protests and gave Trifon Ivanov a yellow card for diving instead. The U21 Bulgaria players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented U21 Italy from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
