King Scorpio scored 0-2 in the 12th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Godfried Buskes, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Netherlands's Godfried Buskes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by King Scorpio in the 19th minute of play. King Scorpio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Godfried Buskes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Florin Susara, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A throw-in in the 26th minute of the game was made by Ovidiu Ivașcu with Dumitru Purcărete as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. In the 27th minute Florin Susara shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Godfried Buskes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Godfried Buskes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Florin Susara, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. In the 31st minute Romania were awarded a corner. King Scorpio went to the cornerflag to take it. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Pavel Alexandru in the 31st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Godfried Buskes saved Netherlands from getting behind. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Frenkie de Jong managed to get in a good position for a shot. Netherlands's supporters rose to their feet, but Frenkie de Jong was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Petruț Gheorghe breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Netherlands's Ryan Weerd got a free kick in the 43rd minute. Frenkie de Jong scored 1-3 in the 46th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Petruț Gheorghe, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The corner led Netherlands's Ryan Weerd to fire away a dangerous shot which Petruț Gheorghe despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 64th minute Marc Overmars shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Petruț Gheorghe saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 66 minutes into the match, Netherlands's Frenkie de Jong sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Petruț Gheorghe narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a little luck, Netherlands's Godfried Buskes got control of the ball when Pavel Alexandru tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 68 played minutes Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by Toni van Steensel. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Frenkie de Jong in the 73rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Petruț Gheorghe prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Godfried Buskes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from King Scorpio in the 77th minute of the match. In the 80th minute of the match Netherlands got a corner. Romania's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Marc Overmars ran over to the corner to take the kick. It was a well-played corner which Rogier Meulman managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Godfried Buskes was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Dan Apopei showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-4 in the 82 minute of play. Godfried Buskes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from King Scorpio in the 88th minute of the match. 90 minutes into the match, Romania's goal looked a bit too open when Frenkie de Jong came free, but Petruț Gheorghe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frenkie de Jong in the 94th minute of play forced Romania's goalkeeper Petruț Gheorghe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Frenkie de Jong recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When the match was over Romania could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Netherlands throughout the match.
