Spectators: 14377 (Terracing: 10000, Seating: 4027, VIP seats: 350) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Jan-Simon Roukeloes started the match with the kick off. When the match had gone on for 4 minutes, Jan-Simon Roukeloes put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Lucas Loaiza. Belgium's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Arne Grauwen in the 9th minute. The corner led Belgium's Papuna Papachronopoulos to fire away a dangerous shot which Lucas Loaiza despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Reiner Fallas came free with the goalkeeper in the 15th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Dimitri Hennes could save by the left post. In the 16th minute Jan-Simon Roukeloes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lucas Loaiza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lucas Loaiza took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jan-Simon Roukeloes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Costa Rica's Lucas Loaiza played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jan-Simon Roukeloes in the 19th minute of play. 20 minutes into the match, Belgium's goal looked a bit too open when Celso Rosales came free, but Dimitri Hennes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Costa Rica's Celso Rosales in the 20th minute got a chance for a shot 20th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Belgium's goalie prevented a goal. In the 21st match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Clodomiro Campos to maneuver through the defense. 22 minutes into the match, Papuna Papachronopoulos had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Lucas Loaiza. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Papuna Papachronopoulos was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Lucas Loaiza showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jan-Simon Roukeloes in the 24th minute of the match. Belgium's Dimitri Hennes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 26th minute of the match, managed to save Belgium from getting a goal against them. In the 27th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mauricio Cartin to maneuver through the defense. Arne Grauwen recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 31st match minute, Belgium was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sebastian Colebrandts to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Papuna Papachronopoulos in the 37th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Lucas Loaiza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Jan-Simon Roukeloes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Belgium's Dimitry De Jaeger was substituted for Robby Verbeeck. Belgium's Theo Musseeuw was substituted for Jan-Simon Roukeloes. Belgium's Arend De Hond was substituted for Sebastian Colebrandts. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Reiner Fallas to make the kick off. The crowd rose to their feet as Belgium's Papuna Papachronopoulos slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Lucas Loaiza. That made the score 0-3 after 53 minutes of play. Dimitri Hennes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Reiner Fallas, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. Costa Rica made a substitution. Wilbert Montoya replaced Nino Rivas. 63 minutes into the match, Belgium's goal looked a bit too open when Alfredo Lankaster came free, but Dimitri Hennes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 65th minute, Belgium's Papuna Papachronopoulos ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Lucas Loaiza. Lucas Loaiza yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-5. After 69 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Felipe Palacios. Costa Rica's Lucas Loaiza played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Papuna Papachronopoulos in the 74th minute of play. Dimitri Hennes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfredo Lankaster, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 77th minute, Belgium's Papuna Papachronopoulos dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-6. Lucas Loaiza took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Papuna Papachronopoulos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Papuna Papachronopoulos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Dimitri Hennes came out of the goal in the 85th minute to try and stop a shot by Costa Rica's Reiner Fallas. But to his dismay, Reiner Fallas quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-6. In the 91st minute of the match Dimitry De Jaeger shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Lucas Loaiza showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 97 minutes into the match, Dimitry De Jaeger notched a goal, 1-7, to the right of Costa Rica's Lucas Loaiza. Lucas Loaiza was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Belgium played a much better game than Costa Rica and deserved their victory. The Costa Rica players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
