Martial Francken didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Netherlands. Belgium's Martial Francken played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ger Heijen in the 16th minute of play. In the 19thth minute of the game Ger Heijen who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Belgium's Martial Francken was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Belgium's Terry Marichal slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Niels-Jan Reintjes. That made the score 2-0 after 25 minutes of play. Jef Visser fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Martial Francken having to interfere. The supporters of Netherlands booed when Belgium was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eric Gerets didn't get a good kick on the ball. Belgium's supporters crossed their fingers, but Terry Marichal was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 81 minutes into the match, Belgium's goalkeeper Martial Francken had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jef Visser. 86 minutes into the match, Belgium's goal looked a bit too open when Ger Heijen came free, but Martial Francken reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 91st minute, Terry Marichal left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Belgium fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 7-2.
