In the 36th minute Tiger Leach shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Isko Nurminen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 43rd minute, U21 Finland's Kiko Petrucci ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Darin Everett. Darin Everett yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 4-0. After a rather tough play, U21 Australia's Tim Cahill got a free kick in the 47th minute. Af the end of the first half the score was 4-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

A collision led to U21 Finland getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Onni Nurmi hit a great ball. Isko Nurminen made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ryan Giggs in the 53rd minute. In the 58th minute Tim Cahill shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Isko Nurminen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Darin Everett made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kiko Petrucci in the 65th minute of play. In the 67thth minute of the game Onni Nurmi who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Australia's Darin Everett was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 69th minute, Kiko Petrucci made a precise shot to the right of Darin Everett. U21 Australia's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-0. When Tiger Leach fell near the penalty area in the 73rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Australia's protests and gave Tiger Leach a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of U21 Finland booed when U21 Australia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tiger Leach didn't get a good kick on the ball. Darin Everett made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kiko Petrucci in the 75th minute of play. After 76 played minutes U21 Australia got a freekick which was hit by Tim Cahill. U21 Finland's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
