Koča Pantić made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marcelo Llata in the 16th minute of play. 16 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Marcelo Llata nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Koča Pantić made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Montenegro's Koča Pantić played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Angelo Carragal in the 19th minute of play. 21 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Valentim Seron had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Vlatko Tica. Budisav Šimanić kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. 26 minutes into the match, Montenegro's Jadranko Ćirović sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Valentim Seron narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 32 minutes into the match, Montenegro's goal looked a bit too open when Sergio Villabona came free, but Koča Pantić reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ecuador made a substitution. Roque Queto replaced Sergio Villabona. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Vlatko Tica to make the kick off. Angelo Carragal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Xavies Loza hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. Valentim Seron showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Budisav Šimanić, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. If Angelo Carragal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Koča Pantić showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Angelo Carragal in the 64th minute of the match. After 67 minutes, Vlatko Tica mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Montenegro and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Montenegro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vlatko Tica didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ecuador's Pietro Batistuta was substituted for Angelo Carragal. Vlatko Tica hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Montenegro's zone, Roque Queto stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Koča Pantić came out of the goal and Roque Queto tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 72nd minute, Fidel Balladares ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Koča Pantić was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pietro Batistuta was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Montenegro made a substitution. Rajo Višnjić replaced Jadranko Ćirović. 89 minutes into the match, Montenegro's goal looked a bit too open when Xavies Loza came free, but Koča Pantić reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Roque Queto recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 96th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 97 minutes into the game, Pietro Batistuta recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Koča Pantić. Pietro Batistuta showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-5. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
