Mahadi Sutisna stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nencho Bliznakov's shot from short distance in the 16th minute. 24 minutes into the match, Nencho Bliznakov had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Mahadi Sutisna. Indonesia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Nencho Bliznakov was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. Bone Levunliev came out of the goal in the 28th minute to try and stop a shot by Indonesia's Marsilam Sangaji. But to his dismay, Marsilam Sangaji quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. After 48 played minutes Indonesia got a freekick which was hit by Hotman Karo-karo. The first half was very even, with the score at 3-3 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Kuzman Pindev to make the kick off. After having played for 54 minutes, Kuzman Pindev managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bulgaria's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kuzman Pindev was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Mahadi Sutisna didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Kuzman Pindev went, in the 57th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-3 was the resulting score. Mahadi Sutisna didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Evstati Stoimchev went, in the 60th minute, to the upper right corner, 5-3 was the resulting score. 65 minutes into the match, Bulgaria's goalkeeper Bone Levunliev had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Marsilam Sangaji. If Marsilam Sangaji had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Bulgaria's Ginyo Kukenski was substituted for Nencho Bliznakov. Indonesia made a substitution. Suphican Tuna replaced Hotman Karo-karo. Indonesia's Mahadi Sutisna played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bozhko Gardakov in the 74th minute of play. Marsilam Sangaji fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bone Levunliev having to interfere. After 79 played minutes Bulgaria got a freekick which was hit by Lachezar Porodinski. In the 81st minute, Lachezar Porodinski hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mahadi Sutisna showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ginyo Kukenski in the 83rd minute of the match. After 87 played minutes Indonesia got a freekick which was hit by Mati Sial. In the 95th minute Ginyo Kukenski shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mahadi Sutisna saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 97 minutes into the match, Bulgaria's Nedelcho Kasúrov sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Mahadi Sutisna narrowly saved just below the crossbar. There was no doubt that Bulgaria were the better team. Bulgaria's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
