The audience was convinced that Răzvan Pârvuță's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Višeslav Ivšić was relentless in the 11th minute of the game. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Răzvan Pârvuță in the 15th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Višeslav Ivšić saved Croatia from getting behind. In the 16th minute of the match Romania got a corner. Croatia's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Nicu Beniuc ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Nicu Beniuc got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Višeslav Ivšić quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. When Romania's Răzvan Pârvuță in the 18th minute got a chance for a shot 18th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Croatia's goalie prevented a goal. 20 minutes into the match, Croatia's Miomir Čizmić sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Daniel Mușătescu narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The Romania fans' excitement grew in the 24th match minute when Romania's Răzvan Pârvuță looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Daniel Mușătescu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from August Sarač in the 27th minute of the match. In the 28thth minute of the game Răzvan Pârvuță who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Croatia's Višeslav Ivšić was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Višeslav Ivšić stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Răzvan Pârvuță's shot from short distance in the 29th minute. In the 35th minute, Răzvan Pârvuță made a precise shot to the right of Višeslav Ivšić. Croatia's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-3. Daniel Mușătescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dubravko Kitić, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. In the 40th minute August Sarač shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Daniel Mușătescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Răzvan Pârvuță in the 45th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Višeslav Ivšić saved Croatia from getting behind.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dubravko Kitić was the one to do the kick off. Dubravko Kitić struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Daniel Mușătescu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Croatia. Răzvan Pârvuțăs short, quick shot in the 58thth minute got Višeslav Ivšić to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Romeo Ljubičić lost his temper 62 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. 61 minutes into the game, one of Croatia:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. 66 minutes had been played when some careless play by Croatia's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Gabriel Nae was slow to take the kick. During this time Romania's players had a chance to rest. In the 69th minute Ferdinand Amuguroancei shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Višeslav Ivšić saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ferdinand Amuguroancei received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Višeslav Ivšić tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 73 minutes into the match, Croatia's goalkeeper Višeslav Ivšić had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Marcel Geolgău. Višeslav Ivšić took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ferdinand Amuguroancei, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gabriel Nae sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a little luck, Croatia's Višeslav Ivšić got control of the ball when Marcel Geolgău tried to sneak it across the goal line. Višeslav Ivšić made a fantastic save in the 91st minute, when Marcel Geolgău sent off a good shot on target. 93 minutes into the match, Marcel Geolgău had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Višeslav Ivšić. Croatia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Marcel Geolgău was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Romania walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
