Lester Fenstermacher fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Isaias Galarneau having to interfere. In the 26th minute Eustache Holman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hani Alles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 27 minutes had been played when some careless play by Switzerland's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Modestine Daigle was slow to take the kick. During this time Canada's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Canada's Wes Steele to a score. 0-2 in the 28th minute. The supporters of Canada booed when Switzerland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stefan Riegler didn't get a good kick on the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

It was Eric Monday von Witzendorff who took care of the corner kick. It was a well-played corner which Gisbert Jost managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Canada had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
