But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Engiljón Böðvarsson couldn't finish the play. 10 minutes into the match, Iceland's goal looked a bit too open when Diego Maradona came free, but Hrolleifur Reynisson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hildibrandur Snæbjörnsson kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Hrolleifur Reynisson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Blaine Keegan in the 19th minute of play. In the 24th minute, Blaine Keegan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Brennan Dunne showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vigri Alexandersson, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. After having played for 26 minutes, Blaine Keegan managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ireland's supporters crossed their fingers, but Blaine Keegan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 31st minute, Bjarmi Snæbjörnsson reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Brennan Dunne. The goal made the score 1-0. After a rather tough play, Ireland's Lukasz Gornik got a free kick in the 38th minute. A very nice done corner allowed Tirloch Costello to score against Hrolleifur Reynisson in Iceland's goal. 1-1 after 43 minutes. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

Iceland's Hjálmar Barðason was substituted for Engiljón Böðvarsson. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Hjálmar Barðason was the one to do the kick off. A collision led to Iceland getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Vilbergur Pálmason hit a great ball. In the 52nd minute Diego Maradona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hrolleifur Reynisson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Blaine Keegan received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Hrolleifur Reynisson came out and tried to block the shot, but Blaine Keegan slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 55th minute. After some careless play in the Iceland defense, Diego Maradona kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Hrolleifur Reynisson. The Iceland fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hrolleifur Reynisson should have stopped the shot. Karli Brynjólfsson hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. Blaine Keegan struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. Hrolleifur Reynisson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ireland. The audience was convinced that Karim Benzema's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hrolleifur Reynisson was relentless in the 65th minute of the game. The Ireland fans' excitement grew in the 65th match minute when Ireland's Karim Benzema looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Hrolleifur Reynisson made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-6. After a defensive mix-up in Iceland's zone, Karim Benzema stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hrolleifur Reynisson came out of the goal and Karim Benzema tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Brennan Dunne showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hjálmar Barðason in the 89th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Ireland's Nacho Fernandez got a free kick in the 91st minute. 92 minutes into the match, Ireland's goal looked a bit too open when Hjálmar Barðason came free, but Brennan Dunne reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 97 minutes Iceland's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Nacho Fernandez who took care of the corner kick. A well-hit corner resulted in Breccan Willson heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Ireland's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
