The crowd rose to their feet as Belarus's Oleg Gaevsky slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Tonio Buttigieg. That made the score 1-2 after 89 minutes of play. Evan Bardon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Radamir Evdokimov having to interfere. In the 98th minute Evan Bardon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Radamir Evdokimov saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Belarus eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
