In the 8th minute, Brayden Bungard made a precise shot to the right of Toby McGuire. U21 United States's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. U21 United States's Alejandro McNamara was substituted for Darren Driver. In the 19th match minute, U21 Australia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dani Buckland to maneuver through the defense. Toby McGuire made a fantastic save in the 22nd minute, when Dani Buckland sent off a good shot on target. 26 minutes into the match, U21 United States's Waldo Abel sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Corder Scalzo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Kazimierz Deyna scored 1-1 in the 28th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Corder Scalzo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Dani Buckland could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 34th minute of the match, but Toby McGuire made a huge save. With a little luck, U21 United States's Toby McGuire got control of the ball when Dani Buckland tried to sneak it across the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ara Minassian during the 41st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 41 played minutes U21 United States got a freekick which was hit by Ara Minassian. With a little luck, U21 United States's Toby McGuire got control of the ball when Earnest Gilding tried to sneak it across the goal line. U21 United States's Diego Forlan was substituted for Andre Arakelyan. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Diego Forlan to make the kick off. In the 57th minute of the match U21 United States got a corner. U21 Australia's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Jospeh Addison ran over to the corner to take the kick. U21 United States's Jospeh Addison was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Corder Scalzo in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. The supporters of U21 United States booed when U21 Australia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jonty Schutt didn't get a good kick on the ball. Diego Forlan struck a weak shot in the 61st minute. Corder Scalzo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 United States. The crowd rose to their feet as Waldo Abel kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Corder Scalzo. That made the score 2-2 in the 64 minute of play. U21 Australia's Corder Scalzo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kazimierz Deyna in the 67th minute of play. Brant Munster hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. After 72 played minutes U21 United States got a freekick which was hit by Kazimierz Deyna. A collision led to U21 United States getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Kazimierz Deyna hit a great ball. U21 Australia's Corder Scalzo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 77th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Australia from getting a goal against them. The goalkeeper, Corder Scalzo, was totally fooled by U21 United States's Kazimierz Deyna, who 79 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Jospeh Addison received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Corder Scalzo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Diego Forlan took the ball and in the 86 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Corder Scalzo. Corder Scalzo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-4. 92 minutes into the match, U21 Australia's goal looked a bit too open when Diego Forlan came free, but Corder Scalzo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to U21 United States getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. Jospeh Addison hit a great ball. In the 97th match minute, U21 United States was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kazimierz Deyna to maneuver through the defense. The U21 Australia supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching U21 United States's performance. The match ended with a win for U21 United States.
