In the 15th minute U21 Romania were awarded a corner. Pompiliu Răduțu went to the cornerflag to take it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Liviu Găman in the 17th minute of play forced U21 Sweden's goalkeeper Stig Siöman to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hugo Lind could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Pavel Boroș made a huge save. Pavel Boroș made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hugo Lind in the 21st minute of play. Liviu Găman recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 25th minute, Emanuel Blomberg hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The U21 Sweden fans' excitement grew in the 29th match minute when U21 Sweden's Hugo Lind looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. U21 Romania's Pavel Boroș proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 37th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Romania from getting a goal against them. U21 Romania's Pavel Boroș played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emanuel Blomberg in the 40th minute of play. Stig Siöman made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Liviu Găman in the 44th minute of play. 45 minutes into the match, U21 Romania's goalkeeper Pavel Boroș had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Hugo Lind. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Hugo Lind was the one to do the kick off. U21 Sweden's Stig Siöman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nicu Beniuc in the 53rd minute of play. 55 minutes had been played when some careless play by U21 Sweden's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Pompiliu Răduțu was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Romania's players had a chance to rest. A well-hit corner resulted in Sever Gârneț heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. U21 Romania's Albert Ciocâltea was substituted for Petruț Bogătan. The supporters of U21 Sweden booed when U21 Romania was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nicu Beniuc didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Hugo Lind during the 59th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 59th match minute, U21 Sweden was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hugo Lind to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, U21 Sweden's Henry Grep got a free kick in the 63rd minute. After 64 played minutes U21 Sweden got a freekick which was hit by Henry Grep. U21 Romania's Leontin Encescu was substituted for Toader Butuc. A collision led to U21 Sweden getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Dag Hellström hit a great ball. Stig Siöman came out of the goal in the 76th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Romania's Albert Ciocâltea. But to his dismay, Albert Ciocâltea quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. After a rather tough play, U21 Romania's Albert Ciocâltea got a free kick in the 80th minute. In the 82nd minute, Hugo Lind ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Pavel Boroș was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. In the 87thth minute of the game Hugo Lind who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Romania's Pavel Boroș was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Albert Ciocâltea's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 89thth minute, Stig Siöman skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. With his leg Stig Siöman managed to avoid a goal in the 89thth minute, when U21 Romania's Albert Ciocâltea fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After some careless play in the U21 Romania defense, Bengt Svartström kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pavel Boroș. The U21 Romania fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pavel Boroș should have stopped the shot. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. U21 Sweden had played much better football throughout.
