The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With a little luck, U21 Australia's Steve Panetta got control of the ball when Angelo Mims tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 19th minute Lucas Tongs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Trinidad Plummer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Trinidad Plummer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pearce Hines, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Pearce Hines's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Trinidad Plummer was relentless in the 25th minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dwayne Rosario got free with Steve Panetta in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Steve Panetta made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dwayne Rosario in the 30th minute. Neville Conlan's late challenge caught a U21 Canada's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Neville Conlan helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to U21 Australia getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Neville Conlan hit a great ball. In the 59th match minute, U21 Australia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hale Hoey to maneuver through the defense. When Leslie Britt came up free with the goalie in the 60th minute, the U21 Canada fans jumped to their feet.
