Botond Vörös showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sandro Valente in the 21st minute of the match. When Rodrigo Teixeira fell near the penalty area in the 27th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Portugal's protests and gave Rodrigo Teixeira a yellow card for diving instead. U21 Portugal:s Nuno Anjos showed great skill when he stopped Tamás Túri:s penalty. U21 Hungary's Botond Vörös played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristiano Magalhães in the 32nd minute of play. György Dömötör fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nuno Anjos having to interfere. Lajos Balázs kicked well hit freekick during the 34th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alexandre Lisboa in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Botond Vörös saved U21 Hungary from getting behind. After 43 played minutes U21 Hungary got a freekick which was hit by Tamás Túri. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Van Nistelrooy got free with Botond Vörös in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 61 minutes into the match, Cristiano Magalhães dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Botond Vörös, 0-1. In the 64th match minute, U21 Hungary was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by György Hubenov to maneuver through the defense. 69 minutes into the match, U21 Hungary's goal looked a bit too open when Viriato Andrade came free, but Botond Vörös reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Nuno Anjos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tamás Túri, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Tamás Túri might have been able to make a better finish in the 83rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nuno Anjos. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tamás Túri ran back to his position shaking his head. U21 Hungary's Zsigmond Szász was substituted for Károly Horváth. U21 Portugal's Óscar Coimbra was substituted for Albertino Castro. A collision led to U21 Portugal getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Rodrigo Teixeira hit a great ball. Tamás Túri might have been able to make a better finish in the 90th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nuno Anjos. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tamás Túri ran back to his position shaking his head. Botond Vörös came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Portugal's Viriato Andrade. But to his dismay, Viriato Andrade quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2.
